Mark Chapter 5 is a powerful reminder that no one is too far gone. Yeshua (Jesus) meets people in places of torment, shame, and desperation, and restores them fully. This chapter features three stories of transformation: a man tormented by demons, a woman suffering for twelve years, and a young girl brought back to life.
The Man Among the Tombs (Mark 5:1–20)
Yeshua crosses the sea and is met by a man possessed by many demons. He lived among tombs, isolated and self-harming. No one could help him, but when he encountered Yeshua, everything changed. The demons were cast out into a herd of pigs, and the man was left clothed, calm, and in his right mind.
Takeaway: Even in the darkest places, Yeshua brings freedom. He sees us not as we are, but as we were created to be.
The Desperate Woman (Mark 5:25–34)
A woman who had been bleeding for twelve years reaches through the crowd and touches Yeshua’s cloak. She believes that even touching the edge of His garment can heal her. Instantly, she is healed. Yeshua stops, honors her faith, and calls her “Daughter.”
Takeaway: Faith is sometimes just reaching out. Yeshua always notices sincere faith, no matter how hidden.
The Little Girl Arises (Mark 5:21–24, 35–43)
Jairus, a synagogue leader, begs Yeshua to heal his daughter. While they are on the way, she dies. But Yeshua tells him, “Do not be afraid, only believe.” He goes into the house, takes the girl by the hand, and says, “Talitha koum”...Little girl, arise. And she does.
Takeaway: When all hope seems lost, Yeshua brings life. He speaks to what looks dead and calls it awake.
